Delbert Laverne Hoffman was born on December 12, 1940, in Vandalia, IL, one of five children born to Elvin and Audrey (Tedrick) Hoffman. On February 13, 1971, he married the love of his life, Marianne Leininger. Together, they built a life centered around love, family, and hard work, raising five children and sharing 41 wonderful years of marriage before Marianne’s passing on March 1, 2012.
Delbert was a simple, down-to-earth man who found happiness in life’s everyday pleasures. A dedicated dairy farmer for many years, he knew the meaning of hard work and took great pride in caring for his cattle and providing for his family. When he wasn’t busy on the farm, Delbert could often be found tending to his garden, keeping his yard immaculate, or tinkering with anything that needed a little attention. He enjoyed taking leisurely drives, sharing a good meal with family and friends, and simply spending time with those he loved most.
Delbert never needed anything extravagant to be content. For him, a good day’s work, a well-kept yard, and the company of family and friends were among life’s greatest blessings. His humble nature, strong work ethic, and appreciation for the simple things in life will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children, Anita Lawrie of Vandalia, Sondra and husband Larry Herbord of Vandalia, Aaron Hoffman and wife Amanda of Vandalia, Kimberly and husband Matthew Lake of Brownstown; sister, Janet McCain of Vandalia; grandchildren, Bret (Kacie) Lange, Alissa (James) Kollman, Chelsey (Cody) Cope, Katie Herbord, Tyler Herbord, Gabrielle (Simon) Krywyn, Joshua Hoffman, Dalton Lake, Macey Lake; great-grandchildren, Abigayle, Millianna, Camden, Maddie, Jaxon, Jaelyn, Brantley; extended family and many friends.
