After many years of discussion, including very deep discussion over this past year, and going through the bidding process a second time–the City of Vandalia has moved forward with the first siltation removal work at Vandalia Lake.
This first round of work that was approved will be in a cove of the lake that was deemed as the most in need of siltation removal. In all, the bids that were approved at Monday’s Vandalia City Council meeting adds up to better than $391,000—which is down significantly from when the first bidding came back. Mayor Doug Knebel says they are pleased to be able to get to this stage of the process.
The bidding was broken down into different stages with one part being for $148,938.59 from Richland Land Improvements out of Shobonier and Mayor Knebel explains this part of the work.
The next part is two phases with the bids awarded to Effingham Asphalt–with phase 1 for 126,195.84 and then phase 2 at $116,194. Knebel says that will be for silt removal basically from boat dock to boat dock and he explains that process.
The matter was approved by the Vandalia City Council by a vote of 7 to 0 with Alderman Kenny Lewey absent from the meeting. Alderman Russ Stunkel, who was serves at the Lake Committee Chairman, thanked the City Council for their support in moving forward with the matter.
