(Decatur, IL) — A Decatur man is pleading guilty to reduced charges in connection to a deadly DUI crash that left a local child dead. In June of 2025, Hassan Woods was allegedly drunk behind the wheel when he crashed into 12-year-old Kavari Drisdell who was riding his bike in a Decatur neighborhood. Kavari died and Woods’ blood alcohol content was found to be more than twice the legal limit. The initial charge of DUI-death was dropped after Macon County State’s Attorney Diane Couri argued that evidence didn’t support claims that Woods’ intoxication caused Kavari’s death. Instead, Woods pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI with no valid driver’s license and will be sentenced in January.
