Back last year, the Vandalia City Council approved to enact a 1% grocery tax. This tax was to replace the one the state was ending at the end of 2025. And, the numbers this year show that would have been a major revenue loss for the city if they hadn’t taken action.
Speaking on our podcast “Talking About Vandalia,” Mayor Doug Knebel says they knew it would be a major loss of revenue if they did not enact the tax.
And, Knebel says they know that a lot of that grocery tax being generated is coming from outside Vandalia and Fayette County.
The numbers show the grocery tax has averaged $35,894 per month. You can check out our full podcast on our website at wwww.vandaliaradio.com and under the Podcast tab.
