The Vandalia City Council moves forward with the process of eventually approving an ordinance for Battery Energy Storage Systems.
During their meeting on Monday night, the Vandalia City Council discussed the matter and was probably their longest topic of discussion during Monday’s meeting. Alderman Kenny Lewey asked some questions about the need for the ordinance and City Attorney Ryan Connor and Mayor Doug Knebel this gets the ball rolling on the matter for the City of Vandalia.
Mayor Knebel says, at this time with no ordinance in place, a company would not be able to put in a Battery Energy Storage System in Vandalia. Alderman Russ Stunkel asked if this is a matter where the City is getting their hand forced by the State and he got further explanation from Connor and City Administrator LaTisha Paslay on the matter.
The matter was approved by the Vandalia City Council by a 5 to 2 vote with Aldermen Mike Hobler and Steve Barker voting No and Alderman Ken Hubler absent from the meeting. The ordinance will now be referred off to the Planning & Zoning Committee for review. After their review of the matter and possible changes, it would then come back to the Vandalia City Council for final approval.
