(Kendall Co., IL) — Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert is dead at the age of 84. The Kendall County coroner announced that Hastert died over the weekend of natural causes. The Republican was the highest-ranking elected U.S. official to ever serve a prison sentence. He was sentenced to 15 months in 2016 after being convicted over hush money payments made to cover up his sexual abuse of teenage boys during his time as a wrestling coach at Yorkville High School in the 1970s. Hastert represented Illinois in Congress from 1987 to 2007.
