Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s revelation that prescription weight loss medication made him healthier is raising questions about access and affordability.
The governor said he lost 80 pounds using GLP-1s and is now off insulin.
Pritzker said Medicaid often does not cover the weight loss medication, but it should.
State Sen. Andrew Chesney said there is data connecting weight loss to overall savings in health plans.
The Freeport Republican said there are ways the state can help.
Chesney suggested the governor could make reducing the cost of GLP-1s part of his legislative agenda.
