A familiar face will be taking over the Office of the Fayette County States Attorney following the Fayette County Board’s approval of the appointment of current Assistant States Attorney Jessica Carr-Martin to succeed Brenda Mathis as States Attorney beginning December 3 when Mathis’ resignation goes into effect due to her being elected as Circuit Judge. While there will be some differences in stepping up into the position, that is something the office in general faces every year. One of the biggest changes the States Attorney’s office has had to deal with since Carr-Martin began working for the county five years ago has been the Safe-T Act. But with new laws passed each year, Carr-Martin says adapting to new laws and changes is commonplace for prosecutors in the state each year.
Carr-Martin has spent her entire law career in prosecution working in the St. Clair States Attorneys office prior to her current stint in Fayette County. With her official appointment as State Attorney beginning in early December, the States Attorneys office is now beginning its search for the new Assistant States Attorney to work with Carr-Martin.
