The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression has released its 2027 College Free Speech Rankings, and Illinois received a failing grade.
The report gave Illinois an F, while states bordering Illinois received D and D- grades.
The foundation’s chief researcher, Sean Stevens, said enrollment has increased at large state schools in the South.
Illinois taxpayers spend billions of dollars each year on public colleges and universities.
University of Chicago finished first in the rankings with a grade of B-.
