(Chicago, IL) — Chicago Cardinal Blase Cupich is joining a federal lawsuit challenging the new right-to-die law in Illinois. A measure set to go into effect on September 12th will allow doctors to prescribe medication to terminally ill people to end their own lives. Cupich, two orders of nuns and a downstate pharmacist are suing to block the law, claiming it’s unconstitutional. The cardinal released a statement saying Catholics oppose efforts to undermine human dignity by pushing people toward suicide.
