(Chicago, IL) — Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Governor Pritzker are responding to comments made by President Trump about gun violence in Chicago. In a Truth Social post, Trump said Chicago violence is at record levels, adding that the city will die if the mayor and governor don’t call the federal government in for help. Johnson said it’s hard to take Trump seriously when he is literally defunding the operations that can assist them in creating safer communities. In his own social media post, Pritzker said “When Trump last sent agents to Illinois, they murdered a father and shot an innocent woman in broad daylight, then attempted to cover it up.” Trump’s comments follow a mass shooting on the South Side this past weekend that left one dead and 14 others wounded.
