Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is running for mayor of Chicago while also seeking reelection to his current office.
Giannoulias launched campaign ads over the weekend for the mayoral election on February 23.
Republican secretary of state nominee Diane Harris said Giannoulias should withdraw from the statewide election in November if he’s planning to become mayor next year.
Giannoulias joined Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza in the race for Chicago mayor. Mendoza is not running for reelection as comptroller.
