City of Vandalia’s new Water Treatment Plant is moving along–still hopeful to have it operational by end of the year

The City of Vandalia’s new Water Treatment Plant is moving along nicely.  And, they are still hopeful to have it operational by the end of this year.

In updates from City Administrator LaTisha Paslay, she say the new Water Treatment Plant on Fletcher Street is moving along on schedule, the building is 98% closed in with on the offices and laboratories progressing well.  Paslay goes on to add that all major vessels have been installed and the piping work to connect everything is underway.  Other work, such as electrical work and conduit and conductors is underway.  And, chemical feed systems are beginning to arrive and they are working to get them installed and connected.  And, as of this time, they are still hopeful to have the plant operational by the end of this year.

The total cost of the project is about $27 million.  Paslay adds the City of Vandalia was able to obtain $10 million in grants and were also able to secure a very low interest loan in 2019 in USDA Rural Development.  The project also includes a new raw water line running from Vandalia Lake to the new plant and a pressure-reducing station.
