City of Vandalia could have new downtown lighting by the Fall

The long-running issue of lighting along Gallatin Street in Vandalia looks like it could be solved by the fall.

During Monday’s Vandalia City Council meeting, Mayor Doug Knebel said he had spoken with Jason Carpenter at ADS Electric recently about the new lights for downtown.

Since the work was completed with the period lights, there have been complaints of the lights not being strong enough and leaving downtown a bit dark–especially being a problem during night time events such as the Halloween Parade and Olde Tyme Christmas.  When the matter was discussed back in May, the estimated overall cost of 60 new lights for downtown was $91,894.80.  Testing has taken place on 4th street to see how the new lights would work and it was met with positive feedback at that time by the City’s Aldermen.
