(Urbana, IL) — The Champaign County Board is delaying a vote on a resolution calling for the resignation of County Clerk Aaron Ammons. The board voted to table the measure for one year. Ammons and his wife, State Representative Carol Ammons, were indicted earlier this month on charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to obstruct justice. Supporters of the ordinance claim the allegations against Ammons have damaged public trust in the office and urged the board to take action. Others claim the resolution is unnecessary because it couldn’t remove Ammons from office.
