(Chicago, IL) — Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is highlighting an auto insurance reform bill. Giannoulias says the legislation would give Illinois regulators the authority to review and challenge excessive insurance rate increases.
The measure would require insurers to provide at least 30 days’ notice before increasing auto insurance renewal premiums by more than 10-percent, ban excessive insurance rates that don’t reflect actual driving risk, and prevent insurers from shifting out-of-state disaster losses onto Illinois drivers. The bill is awaiting Governor Pritzker’s signature.
