The Fayette County Board handled several items during its consent agenda at Tuesday evening’s monthly meeting of the board including items pertaining to personnel, the budget, election and for courthouse roof work. The board unanimously approved its consent agenda 8-0 with one item being called for a roll call vote. The roll call vote came for a budget amendment and was approved 8-0 as well. As for other items, the board passed a yearly motion for approval of hiring additional election judges as the Clerk’s office prepares for the November General Election coming up in just under four months. It was questioned as to the reasoning for hiring additional judges to which it was explained by Clerk Kara Dugan that the motion is a yearly protocol item that the board takes care of yearly during election prep. A bid was approved for work on the courthouse roof. During committee reports, it was expressed that the board received three bids for the roof with the low bid, later approved during the consent agenda, coming from a company in Mascoutah for a cost of $639,000. A resolution was approved to submit certification by IDOT for the position of Fayette County Engineer. Board member Mack Payne informed board members present that Brent Taylor was on hand for the meeting and Board Vice-Chairman Pat Click explained that the county board has to submit Taylor to IDOT for approval and then the board will be free to hire Taylor to take over for Michael Maxey who will be retiring as the county engineer. And a COLA, or Cost of Living Adjustment, was approved for the States Attorney, Public Defender and Sheriff’s Office. The adjustment amount is set by the state and this year’s COLA rate is 4.1%.
