The City of Vandalia will be taking a closer look at getting the water intake repaired at the Kaskaskia River.
For well over a decade, the intake at the river has not worked properly. And, that eventually lead to several years ago Vandalia Lake becoming the city’s sole water source. The matter was discussed during last week’s Lake Committee and Vandalia City Council meetings. Mayor Doug Knebel says it is something they are going to be taking a closer look at getting repaired.
Mayor Knebel added it is part of their strategic plan. He says they will have the city’s engineering firm take a closer look at potential repairs for the river intake. But, Mayor Knebel acknowledges the cost of such repairs may be something that requires some time to get taken care of.
