City Administrator LaTisha Paslay read the names of the 13 original colonies with Dale Timmermann officially ringing the bell for each state. Also, a group of citizens each read parts of the Declaration of Independence. The event also included a presentation by Betsy Ross impersonator Patty Winn and music by Lady Liberty. Vandalia Mayor Doug Knebel says he was really pleased with the event and says it definitely gets your patriotic juices flowing.
And, Mayor Knebel says he’s really proud of how the entire community has shown their patriotic spirit during the country’s 250th birthday.
The night concluded with the singing of “Happy Birthday” to the nation, church bells ringing at 6:25 pm at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, St. James Lutheran Church and First United Methodist Church and birthday cake for those in attendance.
