Gov. J.B. Pritzker says he has increased public education funding by almost $3 billion, but the governor has yet to accept future education dollars from a federal program.
When asked about teachers unions calling for a special legislative session to provide more public education money, Pritzker said he agrees with everyone who says schools are not as well funded as they should be.
31 states have opted to participate in a federal tax credit scholarship program for students in public, private or homeschool settings.
Chicago homeschool advocate Latasha Fields said Gov. Pritzker and the legislature should opt in.
Fields said the donor-based program would not hurt public school funding.
The federal program is scheduled to begin on January 1st.
