The City of Vandalia gave an update on the Lake Siltation project.
At Monday’s Vandalia City Council meeting, Mayor Doug Knebel said the first cove they were going to work on will include 8 parcels of land. He says they have an agreement with 6 of the 8 at this time. He said one other is reviewing the matter and they have not yet reached another individual. Vandalia Lake resident Kevin Schroeder inquired further, with Mayor Knebel and Mitch Hardiek from Milano & Grunloh Engineering weighing with some further information.
In other matters from Monday’s Vandalia City Council meeting, there was some discussion about nuisance animals and what, if anything, could be done. Peggy Tippitt came before the City Council say she is dealing with an overabundance of squirrels and groundhogs at her home. She pointed out they do cause a lot of home problems and Animal Control does not deal with such animals, just dogs and cats. There wasn’t a lot of information on the matter, but City Administrator LaTisha Paslay did suggest contacting the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to see if they might have cages to help relocate the animals.
