
We will have a wild weather day and that will lead to severe weather potential this evening and tonight for the area.
Our forecast for today calls for a chance of showers and storms during the day today with a high of 87. Winds from the southeast will gust better than 45 miles per hour during the day today. Then, showers and storms are likely for tonight with a low of 67. Winds will be from the west and will gust better than 30 miles per hour tonight.
Meanwhile, another shot at severe weather is over the area for this evening and tonight. In their latest Weather Briefing, the National Weather Service in St. Louis says this afternoon into the overnight – The greatest threats for severe storms will be in west-central Illinois during the afternoon and early evening, then moving to the south/southeast and into our area. They add that all hazards are possible with the greatest threats from severe storms being damaging straight-line winds and a lower threat threat from large hail and a strong tornado. As for a time line, the northern part of Fayette County is in the 6 pm to 9 pm timeline with the southern half of the county being in the 9 pm to midnight timeline—probably putting all of us in a time period around sunset as the strongest possibility for any severe storms.
