The Fayette County Board approved the resignation of Fayette County Clerk Jessica Barker following a closed session during their monthly meeting on Tuesday night. Following the end of new business, the county board went into executive session for just over a half hour before returning to open session. County administrator Justin Greely of Bellwether stated that he had “been requested by the county clerk to present her resignation with conditions.” County Board Chairman Jacob Harris stated that he had received the resignation and called for a motion and the matter was put to a roll call vote, passing unanimously by a vote of 13-0. Harris than informed the board that the sitting Deputy Clerk, Cheryl Pollard, will become the clerk and “assume the statutory duties of the clerk.”
In the Republican Primary in March, Barker lost to challenger Kara Dugan. Dugan is set to run in the November General Election for Fayette County Clerk and Barker’s term was set to expire on December 1st.
