(Champaign, IL) — The road crew member who was hit and killed by a vehicle on I-74 in Champaign is being identified as the former Chief of the Tilton Police Department. Steven Cornett died following the incident yesterday morning on I-74 near mile marker 180. Authorities are investigating. Cornett served with the Tilton Police Department from 1984 to 2017, including as chief from 2010 to 2017.
