(Washington, IL) — A man charged in a home explosion and Mother’s Day officer-involved shooting in Tazewell County is being released from jail. Scott Tyler Benway faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm and residential arson. Authorities say the charges stem from a May 10th incident at a home on Mallard Way in Washington when Benway fired shots at officers. One officer returned fire before there was an explosion and the house became engulfed in flames. During a hearing yesterday in Tazewell County court, Benway was set to be released due to health issues stemming from the explosion. The release was delayed until officers can determine how to put a GPS monitor on him.
