The City of Vandalia looks ready to move forward with improving the lighting situation along Gallatin Street in downtown Vandalia on permanent basis. Since the work was completed with the period lights, there have been complaints of the lights not being strong enough and leaving downtown a bit dark. Earlier this year, the City of Vandalia worked on changing that. Speaking on our podcast “Talking about Vandalia” last week, Mayor Doug Knebel talks about the City Council testing a handful of the new lights downtown and now ready to move forward with replacing all those downtown lights.
Back in February, the City of Vandalia had an estimate of cost of $91,894.80 for 60 of the lights. But, Knebel says they may be able to better that.
The lighting issue was always especially notable during fall and winter events downtown—such as the Halloween Parade and Olde Tyme Christmas.
