As lawmakers continue to contemplate state spending for the coming year, the Illinois State Board of Education is seeking to fully fund schools across the state.
State Reps. Will Davis, a Democrat, and Republican Blaine Wilhour, argued during a committee hearing on the state’s evidence-based funding formula last week.
Wilhour questioned if extra spending on the formula had led to better outcomes for students, which Davis said was not a question for the State Board of Education, but rather local school district leaders.
Wilhour said his questions were relevant, as he believes student outcomes should be considered when deciding what to appropriate moving forward.
Lawmakers will continue to debate the state budget this week – along with how much they plan to allocate for the coming year.
