After a day filled with off-and-on storms, heavy rain and well below forecast temperatures, Monday night brought the severe storms to the area that were originally predicted.
The National Weather Service in St. Louis had stated in information leading up to Monday that if the morning/afternoon was filled with rain and little sunshine, that should help bring down the strength of the night time storms for the area. But, that certainly did not seem to be the case.
Tornado Warnings were issued in Fayette County. The NWS says that at 7:36 pm, a severe storm capable of producing a tornado was located near Ramsey. And, they said at 7:45 pm a severe storm capable of producing a tornado was located near Wright’s Corner. During this same period of time and for quite some time after, Fayette County saw multiple Severe Thunderstorm Warnings. At one time, there were four active storm warnings going on at the same time in Fayette County, including the entire county being under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for about an hour until 8:45 pm. The end of the storm warnings finally came at 9:15 pm when storms finally exited the area.
Meanwhile, Fayette County Emergency Management Agency Director Ryan Scott says there is an unconfirmed report of a tornado in the Lake Nellie area, but there appeared to be no significant damage. Scott says Ramsey saw a tree take out a power pole earlier in the day and left two other poles lead. He added that the Vandalia area saw several limbs down that did lead to some power lines being down for a time. Scott said he was happy to report there were no reports of any injuries. There may also be some added damage reports after the light of day hits the area.
