Mary G. Benedict, 84, of Vandalia, IL, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Lebanon Cemetery in Langdon, ND.

Mary was born on May 27, 1941, in Langdon, ND, the daughter of Ernest and Edith (Thody) Christie. She married Roger “John” Benedict Jr. and to this union were born two children, Christie and John “David”.
Mary was kind, quiet, and had a giving heart. She always took interest in her children and grandchildren. Mary also enjoyed crafting, especially sewing and needlepointing.
Mary is survived by her children, Christie (Tim) Clark of Ramsey and John “David” (Flor) Benedict of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Marshall Clark, Landen Clark, and Lenora Clark.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gene Christie; and sister, Carol Hain.
