The Vandalia City Council continued discussion on and heard options for beginning to deal with siltation issues in some areas of Vandalia Lake. Engineer Lee Beckman of Milano & Grunloh took time during his Engineer Report to laid out the three options that they have looked at to pursue in terms of silt removal.
And Beckman says they have two options to look at to tray and keep silt from accumulating in the lake.
And with everything that they have discussed, Beckman says he believes that they will get a favorable price when putting out for bids. He also expressed that he felt they needed to work on putting a timeline together and Mayor Doug Knebel agreed that they needed to be getting in contact with property owners effected as Beckman said the easement process could take some time. Mayor Knebel stated that there is a lake committee meting coming up that they could work to get people to attend. In the meantime, the council approved for Beckman to proceed with beginning the bid process by a vote of 6-0 with two alderman not present for the meeting. At this time, the bid process will be for one cove as Mayor Knebel says this will be a phased process but there could be more areas addressed.
