(Chicago, IL) — Illinois is challenging the Trump administration’s cuts of billions of dollars in funding for energy and infrastructure programs. Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul joined 13 other attorneys general in filing a lawsuit. The complaint claims the Trump administration’s decision to eliminate energy programs created by Congress is unlawful because it violates the separation of powers and the Administrative Procedure Act. In Illinois, the Department of Energy terminated six grant awards to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the University of Illinois-Chicago worth over 20-million-dollars. The grants funded projects to make the electricity grid more reliable and resilient and reduce carbon emissions.
