The City of Vandalia Lake Committee held their first meeting of 2026 on Monday, setting camping site prices and discussing major summer events.
The Lake Committee set the price for the new fully hook-up camping sites that will go into operation this year at $40 per night. All other campsites will remain the same price that they have for years, with most of those being at $20 per night. The pricing will then be re-evaluated after this season.
The Lake Committee is looking for someone to operate the Beach House Concessions for this summer Tammy Flowers with Flowers Concessions spoke to the Lake Committee and gave her proposal on what their set up and days of operation would be. The Lake Committee was receptive. But, it was pointed out the Lake Committee and the City of Vandalia will need to point out a Request For Proposal to see if there are other interested parties. They would hope to know of any additional parties in the next few weeks.
City of Vandalia Tourism Director Amber Daulbaugh spoke to the Lake Committee about SummerFest, which will be July 2nd through 4th at Vandalia Lake. Daulbaugh says the fireworks show will be on Thursday night and she says they have upped their budget for this year’s show from $13,000 last year to $20,000 for this year. She says that will not make for a longer show but for more fire in the air during the 20 minute show. She also stated she is close to announcing the entertainment lineup for this year’s program.
Also, Daulbaugh spoke to the committee on The Boat Races, which will return to Vandalia Lake and this year will be August 28th, 29th and 30th. Last year’s race was an add on at the end of the boat racing season. But, this year’s race is set to be during the regular season and a points race.
Meanwhile, both the Lake Committee and the Vandalia City Council discussed siltation issues at the lake and we will talk more about that coming up tomorrow.
