The first meeting of the re-formed Civic Advancement Committee was held on Tuesday.
A large crowd was on hand at the Family YMCA of Fayette County for the meeting—which talked a lot about recent goings on and accomplishments in the community but didn’t contain a lot of substance on what the committee’s overall purpose or goal would be.
Vandalia Mayor Doug Knebel has been working on getting this committee going since shortly after he took office in May of last year. He was asked why the time was now for getting such a group together.
Fayette County Board Vice-Chairman Pat Click says he believes having this committee working together throughout the county is much along the lines of the CEO Program and when the Vandalia Chamber of Commerce became the Greater Fayette County Chamber of Commerce.
Originally, the Civic Advancement Group was formed in Vandalia in 1949 but has mostly been dormant for the past 30 years. We will talk more on the Civic Advancement Group coming up tomorrow.
