3.8 Magnitude Earthquake shook the area early Tuesday morning, felt for better than 100 miles away

An earthquake early Tuesday morning was felt throughout the area and even over 100 miles away.

The United States Geological Survey reports the earthquake hit on Tuesday morning at 1:27 am about 6 miles from Nokomis.  The depth of the quake was measured at more than 5 miles.  Individuals from throughout our area reported feeling the early morning quake and it was reported the furthest away to feel the earthquake was in Hamilton, Illinois–about 130 miles away.  No damage has been reported at this time.
