The Illinois Department of Corrections has a permanent rule for electronic mail scanning, but state lawmakers could move to restrict the agency’s authority.
The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules reviewed IDOC’s revised rule in Chicago Friday, one day before a 150-day emergency rule was set to expire.
Republican State Rep. Ryan Spain addressed IDOC Director Latoya Hughes.
Democratic State Sen. Bill Cunningham urged IDOC officials to stay engaged.
Cunningham said members of the General Assembly might propose legislation with a different position.
