(East St. Louis, IL) — Illinois State police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting near a convenience store in East St. Louis. Authorities say troopers tried to pull over a stolen vehicle Sunday night in the 45-hundred block of South State Street. The driver put the vehicle in reverse, hitting an ISP squad car. She then drove in the direction of a trooper, who opened fire. The driver, Rachel Tarrence, was shot and taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
