Last week, the Family YMCA of Fayette County announced a new project coming in 2026, Unity Park. Unity Park is a partnership project between the Y and Kaskaskia College. The park will occupy a 16-acre space of land between the Y and the Kaskaskia College Education Center, featuring pavilions, playgrounds, trails, native landscaping, public art, and activity fields. Fayette County YMCA CEO Ben Frazier says that this project will help set them apart from other YMCAs across the state.
Frazier also stated that he loves being part of a community that has seen a lot of economic growth over the last several years.
Unity Park will be designed to inspire creativity through public art, sculpture, and landscape design, foster community engagement through interactive and educational experiences, promote cultural enrichment and support tourism in Vandalia, and strengthen collaboration between Kaskaskia College and the YMCA.
