Vandalia Mayor Doug Knebel offers further explanation in regards to the letter from the City’s insurance company received by some that had made a claim in regards to the street oiling issue.
Back in September, there was an incident following the City of Vandalia oiling streets where vehicles and driveways got covered with oil after the city used a different type of rock and then also a heavy rain on the day of the oiling that were believed to have led to the issues on such streets as Jefferson Street, Main Street and others. And, the matter was further complicated because–at that time–Randolph Street was still closed for road work and that led to more people than usual taking some of these freshly oiled streets. And, the City of Vandalia asked for people to submit their information on any claims for clean up. Speaking on our podcast “Talking about Vandalia,” Mayor Knebel says that about 200 or so initially sent in their information to the City. He says, after that, there was an additional form that needed to be completed and sent to the insurance company. He says there were only about 40 or so of those received. And, then recently those individuals received a letter from the City of Vandalia’s insurance company finding no liability and the claims were denied. But, Mayor Knebel says there was at least one part of the letter they have asked be corrected.
There were some comments from individuals as to why the Mayor’s name or signature was not on the letter. And, Mayor Knebel explains that letter came directly from their insurance company.
