The Vandalia City Council will further discuss electronic scooters, gas powered bicycles and EBikes during their meetings in December.
During the Vandalia City Council meeting on Monday night, Police Chief Jeff Ray said they need to further discuss electronic scooters. Not that long ago, a 14 year old was hit while on a scooter. Chief Ray says that state law allows them to either allow electronic scooters in town or to prohibit them, so having an ordinance in place would help with regulation.
That discussion also turned to gas powered bicycles and EBikes. The gas powered bicycles have been a topic for the City Council in the past because of some noise complaints. Chief Ray gave his opinion on what he would like to do going forward with the gas powered bikes.
It was questioned if the gas powered bikes are really noisier that some other vehicles on the roadway, or just a different noise. And, Alderman Bob Bowen says it also comes down to being the only means of transportation some folks can afford.
City Attorney Ryan Connor said his office is working on an ordinance on the matters and it will be available for further review by the Vandalia City Council during the month of December.
