The Vandalia City Council had a long discussion at their meeting on Monday night about some properties in town they would like to see cleaned up.
The City Council was presented with a list of properties that are being watched and what action has been taken by the City’s Code Enforcement Officer Zac Kopp. During the report from City Attorney Ryan Connor, Alderman Steve Barker pointed out a property he has brought up in the past on 6th Street was not on the list. And, Alderman Bob Bowen talked about a property on Edwards Street that he has brought up several times that is also not on the list. Bowen says the door is open on the front of the building and there’s safety concerns on the Edwards Street property and Connor said there has been work legally on that matter.
Alderman Russ Stunkel spoke positively about the work being performed by Kopp and others agreed.
Speaking during our weekly podcast “Talking about Vandalia,” Mayor Doug Knebel says safety concerns are involved in these properties.
Connor says they can hire a contractor to secure the building to make sure it is safe and secure and they would then pass those charges along to the property owners. Connor said now that he had gotten full directive on these two properties he plans to come back with progress very soon.
