The Fayette County Board filled a vacancy on Tuesday evening, approving the appointment of a new board member. During the New Business portion of the monthly meeting, the board received a nomination from the Fayette County Republican Central Committee for recommendation to fill the vacant District 2 seat. Before voting on the recommendation of Dan Lutz, Board Chairman Jacob Harris did relay to the board and those in attendance that Lutz does work part time for the sheriff’s office doing courthouse security. Harris stated that they had the state’s attorney research it and State’s Attorney Brenda Mathis was in attendance and confirmed that if approved Lutz would not be able to vote on anything dealing with personnel issues for the sheriff’s office and would not be able to serve in any committee with governance over the sheriff’s office and that they would make sure to keep things with Lutz as tight as possible. After the discussion, the board members in attendance unanimously approved the appointment of Lutz by a vote of 11-0.
