(Chicago, IL) — Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza could be eyeing a different elected office. The Chicago Tribune reports Mendoza may not run for a fourth term as the state’s chief fiscal control officer to instead focus on a possible 2027 bid for Chicago mayor. Her political team said she would formally announce her plans for the 2026 election today in Chicago. The former state representative and Chicago city clerk unsuccessfully ran for Chicago mayor in 2019, the year Lightfoot won.
