The Vandalia City Council approved expansion of the golf cart and UTV (or side-by-side) ordinance.
At their meeting on Monday night, the Vandalia City Council voted to approve the expansion, which will now allow those vehicles to travel on Randolph Street and St. Louis Avenue. With that expansion, it will also greatly reduce the number of crossings needed—as a crossing spot won’t be needed if the street is allowed for the vehicles.
The crossing spots would now be–
Kennedy at Madison, Kennedy at Jefferson, Kennedy at Grandview, Veteran’s Avenue at 8th Street.
Alderman Bret Brosman would like to add a crossing at Randolph and Kennedy and I-DOT will be contacted in regards to that potential addition. The expansion was approved unanimously by the City Council. Vandalia Assistant Police Chief Jake Bowling was asked if there have been any issues since the vehicles have been allowed in Vandalia and he says there have not been any problems. Golf carts and side-by-sides are still not allowed on Kennedy Boulevard and Veteran’s Avenue.
