(Chicago, IL) — The U.S. Supreme Court will hear a lawsuit challenging Illinois’ law regarding mail-in ballots. A suit filed by downstate Congressman Mike Bost and two GOP officials seeks to block the state from allowing mail-in ballots to be counted up to two weeks after Election Day, as long as they were postmarked or certified on or before that day. The lawsuit was previously rejected by the U.S. District Court and the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago. Both ruled Bost and two presidential electors lacked legal standing to challenge the law in May 2022. The dispute will be heard by the Supreme Court during its next term, which begins in October.
