Parents and community leaders are speaking out against legislation which would punish homeschool families if they don’t comply with proposed state government reporting mandates.
The sponsor of House Bill 2827, state Rep. Terra Costa Howard, said last month that Illinois needs more regulations on homeschooling.
Pastor Chris Butler proclaimed his opposition at a rally Thursday in downtown Chicago.
Parent advocate Eva Villalobos described the bill language as loose and misleading. She said parents and caretakers would have a deadline of ten days to submit information to the state.
State Rep. La Shawn Ford joined hundreds of families at the rally and said the bill is not what’s needed in Illinois.
