Two new laws affecting mosquito control efforts have taken effect in Illinois.
State Senator Steve McClure sponsored a measure that requires 24-hour notice before state or local governments apply pesticides to a public right-of-way.
The bill’s House sponsor, state Representative Laura Faver Dias, explained the penalties local governments could face.
State Senator Laura Fine sponsored a bill to expand territories by which a mosquito abatement district can annex another territory.
State Rep. Jennifer Gong-Gershowitz said the law does not force communities to be annexed.
293 new laws took effect in Illinois on January 1st.
