The Driving Under the Influence cases in Fayette County show a probable uptick this year over last year. But, it shows the numbers are down post-COVID.
So far this year, there have been 31 DUI cases filed in Fayette County. That looks like it will be up from last year when only 41 were filed for the entire year. There were 42 DUI cases filed in 2022 and just 28 filed in 2021 and 39 filed in 2020.
The numbers before the 2020 pandemic were higher with 66 in 2019, 58 in 2018, 76 in 2017, 99 in 2016, 128 in 2015, 107 in 2014 and 90 in 2013—showing numbers have been down since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The number of DUI’s came into question some this week when City of Vandalia Alderman Ken Hubler brought up the practices of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in regards to DUI’s at Monday’s Vandalia City Council meeting. Sheriff Ronnie Stevens responded. Sheriff Stevens provided the DUI numbers from the Fayette County Circuit Clerk.
