The Vandalia School Board on Thursday night approved two key items pertaining to the planned new Okaw Area Vocational Center. During her report, Vandalia Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Garrison informed the board that the City of Vandalia had approved a memorandum of understanding for a steering committee earlier in the week at the Vandalia City Council meeting and that they would vote on the same MOU. Garrison talked about the cooperation between the school district, the city and the county to work towards the new center. The board later in the meeting approved the OKAW Memorandum of Understanding for the Steering Committee by a vote of 7-0. Following that vote, the school board approved a second item pertaining to the new OKAW Center which was for a consulting services agreement with TThoman Development, LLC for work on the design and other items for the building. That item was also approved by a vote of 7-0.
In other business at the meeting, the school board took care of some personnel items. Resignations from VJHS Aide Susan Feldhake and from VJHS and VCHS Band Director Amanda Moloney were approved and FMLA was approved for Kayla Hazzard and Ronnie Ladon. Employment was approved for Kendall Rooney as VES Teacher Aide for the 24/25 school year and for Mikayla Ruot as VJHS and VCHS Band Teacher beginning with the 24/25 school year. In administration employment, 5-year contracts from July 1, 2024 to June 30,2029 for Superintendent Jennifer Garrison and VCHS Assistant Principal Greta Krueger were approved.
