Severe Storms are expected this afternoon and this evening over the area.
The forecast for today is a chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon with a high of 79. Winds will gust from the east and then the south at better than 25 miles per hour. Then, showers and storms tonight with a low of 45. We could see heavy rain tonight with winds out of the south and then from the north gusting at better than 25 miles per hour.
In their latest Weather Briefing, the National Weather Service in St. Louis says there is still uncertainty regarding the exact amount of fuel for thunderstorms we will have and in thunderstorm evolution this afternoon, but severe thunderstorms will still occur. The NWS says this impacts the development of supercells that will
initially develop in central Missouri and how quickly they will form into a line as they move east. This, in turn, impacts hazards. Supercells would mean large hail and damaging winds while a line of thunderstorms would mean damaging winds and tornadoes. As for timing, the latest maps show the storms reaching our area from 4 pm to 6 pm today and exiting the area between 8 pm and 10 pm tonight.
