Retailers around Illinois are sounding the alarm over the governor’s proposal to cap a sales tax credit they can claim. Retailers receive a discount of 1.75 percent of the sales tax they collect as reimbursement for collecting taxes for the state. Governor J.B. Pritzker wants to cap the claim at $1,000 a month. Illinois Retail Merchants Association president Rob Karr says the move would hurt all Illinois businesses.
Karr says there is work to be done during the spring session of the General Assembly.
The Illinois Chamber of Commerce is also opposing the sales tax credit cap proposal.
